Prometheus Legal Consultancy is an initiative of eight enthusiastic students of the Honours College of Law at the University of Amsterdam.* The students who volunteer for the Foundation belong to the top 5% of the Bachelor of Laws. In addition to their study practices, they dedicate themselves to the common good by providing free legal advice, which they consider as their social duty. Prometheus strives for high quality legal services and lends a helping hand to those in need. Our volunteers will be happy to help you with legal questions or complaints in any of our various areas of law.
* Prometheus emphasises that she is not to be affiliated as being part of the Honours College of Law and/or the University of Amsterdam as an educational institution.
“Giving back to the community in these difficult times is what we as students consider as our social duty. Prometheus is the realisation of that.”
Laurens de Korte
My name is Laurens de Korte. In 2021, I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Law (with the additional Honours Programme) at the University of Amsterdam Cum Laude. After that, I had the privilege of studying at Columbia University’s law school for six months. At Columbia Law School, I mainly took courses that focused on corporate and competition law. As of September 2022, I will start my master’s programme in European Law at the University of Amsterdam. After completing this master’s, I am also interested in doing a master’s abroad. Eventually, I would like to work for a law firm in New York City or offer my services to the European Union in Brussels.
Despite my young age (25), I already have a relatively long legal career behind me. During my previous studies, I was able to gain relevant practical experience at various institutions: a mortgage company, a law firm and the Public Prosecutor’s Office. In addition, between 2018 and 2021, I worked with great pleasure for the Financial Services Disputes Committee (KiFiD) in The Hague. As of March 2022, my next adventure awaits, namely a student internship at the Amsterdam office of the British law firm Allen & Overy.
At the moment, however, I want to devote all my time to helping people who have experienced legal problems. The times we live in are not the easiest. If I can use my knowledge and experience to help others, then I see that as a social duty. You can count on my fellow volunteers and me to do all we can to help you with your legal problem.
My name is Ömer Arikan and I am a law student at the University of Amsterdam. In 2021, I finished my Bachelor’s in Dutch Law with Cum Laude distinction. As vice-chairman, I support my fellow students during activities and together we work on the growth of Prometheus. As an initiator, I have been involved in this project from day one because I think it is important that the law is accessible to everyone. Moreover, as a law student I noticed that I find the practical application of law interesting. Prometheus gives me the opportunity to work on real cases.
As a student, I already gained practical experience at, among others, the Municipality of Utrecht, KNMI and the Notarial Foundation. In addition to my studies, I am currently active as a student assistant for the Labour Law department of the University of Amsterdam.* Thanks to my previous studies, I have excellent practical skills which I gladly use to realise the mission of Prometheus.
My name is Tigi Busstra. As treasurer of the Prometheus Legal Consultancy foundation, I am responsible for managing all finances. Together with my fellow board members, I also take care of the general tasks within the foundation. I am currently a student of Law at the University of Amsterdam.* I am doing this study with a lot of pleasure and I am looking forward to apply all my gained knowledge in practice by giving careful legal advice!
All my life I have had a great sense of justice and it therefore gives me great satisfaction to help people who get involved in legal disputes to obtain their rights. Please feel free to knock on the door of the Prometheus Legal Consultancy Foundation; I will do my best, together with my fellow volunteers, to help you with all your legal problems.
My name is Amin Larossi. I graduated from the Honours College of Law at the University of Amsterdam and am currently following the Master Law & Finance.* As secretary I am primarily concerned with the reporting of Prometheus Legal Consultancy. As a helpful person, I am always willing to help people where it is needed. When the coronapandemic broke out, I could not stand by and watch the people around me get caught in a legal web. This character trait made me, as the initiator of Prometheus Legal Consultancy, intend to approach talented and like-minded fellow students to set up my own consultancy firm in order to give a helping hand to as many people as possible.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I will gladly roll up my sleeves for you and try to explain everything in understandable language. From rental disputes to cancelled airline tickets, you can always count on my boundless efforts.
Commissioner External Relations
My name is Lois Elshof. I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude in the Honours College of Law at the University of Amsterdam. During my studies, I gained a lot of work experience in the field of (international) criminal law at the law firm Prakken d’Oliveira and in the field of financial-economic regulatory enforcement at the law firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek. Following my graduation, I studied a semester at Columbia Law School, a top-ranking law university in the US. There, I was able to expand my knowledge into the practice areas of corporate law and the world of M&A. In the upcoming months, a traineeship at the law firm Norton Rose Fulbright lies ahead, again in the area of regulatory enforcement.
For many, times like these still bring unrest and uncertainty, also in the legal field. Prometheus Legal Consultancy is the right contact for this and we will be happy to help you. I look forward to translate our acquired knowledge and practical experience into a tailored response to your legal question and to assist you to our utmost.
I am involved in writing the opinions but, as External Affairs Commissioner, I am also the person of contact for our collaborations with civil society organisations and the various law firms that support us. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via the e-mail below.
Daphne de Groot
Commissioner External relations
My name is Daphne de Groot. This year I graduated Magna Cum Laude for the Honours College of Law at the University of Amsterdam.* In addition, I studied for one semester at the Business & Law School ESADE in Barcelona.
For many people, the present time still raises questions that are inextricably linked to the law. Questions that can sometimes be quite complicated, especially if one does not know what his or her rights and obligations are. However, knowing your rights and obligations is very important, especially in uncertain times like these. That is why I joined Prometheus Legal Consultancy, to be able to help people with this. Just like my fellow students, I see the necessity of helping those in need in these difficult times. I am happy to use the knowledge I gain during my studies to help people move forward. At Prometheus Legal Consultancy the focus will always be on this: actually helping people in an accessible way.
As External Affairs Commissioner, besides providing legal advice to those seeking help, I will mainly be looking for the right ‘matches’ and collaborations for the foundation. With the right partnerships and our unceasing efforts, I am convinced that Prometheus Legal Consultancy can be of great help.
Aïcha van der Ree
Commissioner Internal relations
My name is Aïcha, I am a master student at the Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam and I am involved with this foundation to broaden my knowledge and apply it in practice. I have a passion for helping people, specifically in the field of law. The legal system is confusing to many, but it deserves the necessary attention, because the law is about matters that concern everyone. I think accessibility is important, because people often consider it too big a step to approach a lawyer or do not know to whom they should reach out. Because of this, people do not know their legal position and what they can or cannot do in difficult situations. Being involved with this volunteer foundation allows me to unite my passion with my ideals and hopefully subsequently help those in need.
In addition to writing advice, I will be involved in the collaboration between the volunteers and the board members. My goal is to create an open and good atmosphere, so that we can provide the best advice for our clients together.
Commissioner Internal relations
I am Quiryn Rook, also a graduate of the Honours College of Law at the University of Amsterdam.* Besides my studies, I have gained legal experience by working at a law firm, providing legal advice at another foundation and teaching as a student assistant at the University of Amsterdam. In addition, I am actively involved in promoting the integration of status holders in the Netherlands. Recently, I started an internship at the international law firm Dentons, based in Amsterdam.
As part of Prometheus Legal Consultancy, I will continue to do what I love; helping other people. The coronapandemic has already caused enough suffering. If we can help you with any of your legal complaints, we will be pleased. Please do not hesitate to contact us; we will be happy to put our expertise at your disposal.
