Prometheus Legal Consultancy is an initiative of eight enthusiastic students of the Honours College of Law at the University of Amsterdam.* The students who volunteer for the Foundation belong to the top 5% of the Bachelor of Laws. In addition to their study practices, they dedicate themselves to the common good by providing free legal advice, which they consider as their social duty. Prometheus strives for high quality legal services and lends a helping hand to those in need. Our volunteers will be happy to help you with legal questions or complaints in any of our various areas of law.
* Prometheus emphasises that she is not to be affiliated as being part of the Honours College of Law and/or the University of Amsterdam as an educational institution.
“Giving back to the community in these difficult times is what we as students consider as our social duty. Prometheus is the realisation of that.”
Laurens de Korte
My name is Laurens de Korte. Despite the fact that I am a third year law student, I have already had a relatively long legal career. During my previous studies I was able to gain relevant practical experience at various institutions: a mortgage company, a law firm and the District Attorney’s Office. Since 2018 I have enjoyed working for the Financial Services Disputes Committee (KiFiD) in The Hague. After completing my studies, I hope to present my services to the European Union in Brussels.
At the moment, however, I want to fully commit myself to people who are in legal trouble due to the coronapandemic. The time we live in right now is not the easiest. If I can use my knowledge and experience to help someone else, then I see that as a social duty. You can count on me and my fellow volunteers to do everything we can to help you with your legal problem.
My name is Ömer Arikan and I am a third year law student at the University of Amsterdam.* As vice president, I will support the board and my fellow students in their work and work on the growth of Prometheus. As an initiator, I have been involved in this project from day one because I realize that the coronapandemic is hitting vulnerable groups in our society the hardest.
As a law student, I noticed that I find the practical application of law interesting. As a student I already gained practical experience at, among others, the Municipality of Utrecht, the KNMI and the Notarial Foundation. In addition to my studies, I am currently active as a student assistant for the Employment Law section of the University of Amsterdam.* Thanks to my previous studies, I have excellent practical skills that I am happy to use to realize Prometheus’ mission.
My name is Tigi Busstra. As treasurer of the Prometheus Legal Consultancy foundation, I am responsible for managing all financial matters. In addition, I take care of the general tasks of the foundation together with my board members. I am currently a third year law student at the University of Amsterdam.* I enjoy my studies and look forward to applying all my knowledge in practice by giving legal advice!
From a young age, I have had a great sense of justice and it gives me great satisfaction to help people to determine their rights in this difficult time. Please do not hesitate to contact Prometheus Legal Consultancy; my fellow volunteers and I will do the best we can in order to help you with your legal problems arising from the corona pandemic.
I am a third-year student of law at the Honours College of Law at the University of Amsterdam.* As secretary, I am primarily responsible for the reporting of Prometheus Legal Consultancy, and as spokesperson I am the primary point of contact of the Foundation. I am always ready to help people in need. I could therefore not just sit around and watch as people around me got trapped in a legal web of complex issues. This trait ensured that, as co-initiator of Prometheus Legal Consultancy, I approached talented and like-minded fellow students to set up my own consultancyfirm in order to lend a helping hand to as many people as possible.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask them. I like to roll up my sleeves for you and strive to explain everything in an understandable manner . From rental disputes to canceled airline tickets, you can always count on my unbridled commitment.
Commissioner External relations
I am Quiryn Rook, a third year student at the Honours College of Law of the University of Amsterdam.* In addition to my studies, I have already gained legal experience by, among other things, working at a law firm, providing legal advice at another foundation and teaching as a student assistant at the University of Amsterdam. In addition, I am actively committed to promoting the integration of status holders in the Netherlands.
As part of Prometheus Legal Consultancy I will continue to do what I enjoy doing; helping other people. The coronapandemic has already caused enough suffering. If we can help you with the legal complaints arising from the coronapandemic, we will do our utmost. Do not hesitate to contact us, we are happy to use our expertise for answering your legal question.
Daphne de Groot
Commissioner External relations
My name is Daphne de Groot. Currently, I am a third-year law student at the University of Amsterdam.* The current situation confronts many people with specific conflicts or questions that are inextricably linked to law. These situations or questions can sometimes be quite complicated, especially if one does not know which rights and obligations he or she possesses. However, knowing your rights is of great importance, especially now since we are confronted with great uncertainty.
I have committed myself to Prometheus Legal Consultancy to help people with problems that might have arisen out of the current uncertainty. I like to use my knowledge about the law, that I have gained during my studies, to help those people. At Prometheus Legal Consultancy we will focus on actually helping people in an accessible way.
In addition to providing legal advice to those seeking help, I – as commissioner external relations – will be focused on finding good matches and partnerships that can help Prometheus Legal Consultancy in the future. With the right partnerships and our infinite commitment, I am convinced that Prometheus Legal Consultancy will be successful in helping those that really need our help.
Aïcha van der Ree
Commissioner Internal relations
My name is Aïcha, I am a third year law student at the University of Amsterdam* and I am involved with this foundation to broaden my knowledge and apply it in practice. I have a passion for helping people, specifically in the field of law. The legal system is confusing for many, but it deserves the necessary attention, because the law is about matters that concern everyone. I think accessibility is important, because people often consider it too big a step to approach a lawyer or do not know to who they should rech out. Because of this phenomenon, people do not know their legal position and what they can or cannot do in difficult situations. Being involved in this volunteer foundation allows me to unite my passion with my ideals and hopefully subsequently help those in need.
In addition to writing advice, I will be involved in the collaboration between the volunteers and the board members. My goal is to create an open and good atmosphere, so that together we can provide the best advice for our clients.
Commissioner Internal Relations
My name is Lois Elshof. I am currently in the final year of my Bachelor of Laws at the Honours College of Law in Amsterdam.* From a young age, my attention was quickly drawn to legal disputes between citizens and the often omnipotent government. Last year, I enjoyed gaining practical experience in this particular legal practice as I worked in the field of financial-economic and international criminal law at the renowned law firms of Prakken d’Oliveira and De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, both based in Amsterdam.
Times like these bring unrest and uncertainty for many people, also in the legal field. Prometheus Legal Consultancy is the right contact for this and we will be happy to help you. I look forward to translate our acquired knowledge and practical experience into a tailored response to your legal question and to assist you to our utmost.
In addition to writing the requested advisory opinions, I will mainly focus on coordinating and supervising the consultants of the Foundation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via the e-mail undermentioned.
